Difference in Connection Points:
The inner ball joint (also known as the steering rack tie rod end) connects to the steering rack; it is responsible for transmitting steering commands from the steering wheel-via the steering gear-outward.
The outer ball joint (also known as the tie rod end) connects to the steering knuckle (commonly referred to as the "spindle"); it is responsible for transmitting steering forces to the wheels.
Differences in Operating Environment:
The outer ball joint is exposed to the exterior of the chassis, making it more susceptible to corrosion from external elements such as mud, water, and gravel, resulting in faster wear;
The inner ball joint is typically situated within the vehicle's interior or a protected area, giving it a relatively longer service life.
Although these components operate independently, it is recommended to replace them in pairs; since they typically wear out simultaneously, replacing only one side may result in uneven stress on the steering system, thereby compromising handling safety.
