The material's yield strength exceeds 800 MPa, ensuring it resists deformation under high steering loads. Each batch is verified using spectrometer analysis to ensure chemical consistency.
The component is manufactured using a precision cold forging process, delivering excellent dimensional accuracy and surface quality with minimal post-processing. In combination with high-precision CNC machining, the ball size tolerance is controlled within ±0.02 mm (approximately one-third the thickness of a human hair).
Production Process of Outer Ball Joint
Forging The Components: The ball pin (or stud) is forged from high-strength alloy steel. Heating and shaping the steel align the metal grain structure, significantly increasing tensile strength and durability.
Housing: The outer housing is hot- or cold-forged to create a robust, dense metal body that securely holds the ball and stud.
Turning & Milling: The forged blanks undergo cnc turning and drilling to create exact threads, tapers, and cylindrical shapes.
Ball Contour: The spherical ball head must be machined to extremely precise roundness to ensure smooth articulation and prevent play.
Tolerance Limits: The clearance between the ball head and the housing socket is strictly kept between 0.02 and 0.05 mm to maintain steering precision without binding.
Hardening: Both the housing and the ball stud are subjected to through-hardening or case-hardening processes. This creates a hard, wear-resistant surface while maintaining a resilient, flexible core to prevent snapping under heavy impact.
Greasing & Caulking: The ball stud is placed inside the bearing, and high-temperature, load-bearing grease is packed into the joint. A steel cap is installed at the bottom of the housing and mechanically folded or "caulked" (crimped) to permanently seal the components.
